As usual, gift from MGLUAYE's PAGES for the New Year is finally came up. Last year, English Myanmar Calendar 2011 was downloaded over 339 times the whole year that makes 270 times more than Calendar 2010 and 264 times more than Calendar 2009. This year, MGLUAYE went back to Burma and now residing back in Yangon, I have very limited spare time to prepare this calendar. But, I tried my best to be able to share calendar as usual. MYANMAR TO BE ASEAN CHAIR IN 2014

Just a while ago, I read facebook update from one of my friends who is reporter from well-known journal in Myanmar. Right now, she is attending ASEAN Summit at Bali, Indonesia. ASEAN Summit this year is quite popular as of Myanmar has proposed itself to be Chair of ASEAN in 2014. Not only within region, but also the whole world is keeping an eye on Myanmar whether is there true changes leading to national reconciliation and political reconstruction to democratization.

Today, there is the meeting of foreign ministers from ASEAN countries, it was agreed for Myanmar to be named as Chair of ASEAN 2014. It is really a great news and a lot of people are also waiting for this news long time ago.

After getting agreement to be ASEAN Chair 2014, then Myanmar has to start preparing for all the necessities to be able to hold general meetings and several other activities in terms of responsibilities of ASEAN Chair. Positively, it will be creating several employment opportunities for local talents and progress in terms of business development will be followed.

Therefore, it is like a notice for local talents to get prepared for upcoming business opportunities. For the time being, I would like to note today as a day of happiness with regards of hearing this news.

Yangon : Royal Toe Hotel

Today, three hundred and fourteenth day of Year 2011, and 11^th November 2011, that makes 11.11.11. A lot of people from all over the world take today as so called distinct day of the year that meets six of number one.

Today is also important day for Royal Toe Hotel in Yangon; it is opening its doors to business today. Royal Toe is one of the newest hotels in city of Yangon, it ranks three stars in hotel industry.

Myanmar Amazing Expo 2011

On 12^th of this month, I happened to visit Myanmar Amazing Expo 2011 in Thuwanna Stadium. As per media, this year is re-birth of such mega expos in Myanmar. There has been big gap of such Expos in this recent years. Myanmar Amazing Expo was emphasizing on building construction and decoration materials. However, the display items ranging from personal electronics gadgets to heavy trucks. If we were to say that frequent extravaganza Expos are signs of the business development in a country, we can says that economy in Myanmar is developing progressively.

The day I went there is full moon day of Thadin Kyut, and the timing also early in the noon, thus there was less crowded than normal.

Yangon : Notice For Power Black Out

As I have written here, it is in the so called UN-predictable thing that when electricity will be black out in Yangon, Myanmar in the past. Most of us surprise that other countries, like Singapore has better advance notice systems on such thing. We did experience more efficient customer service standards when we were been in abroad.

Now, (I don’t believe this is first time announcement issued, however this is first time I ever read on newspaper). Today newspaper got the advance notices to customers of Ministry of Electricity No. (2). It said that there will be upgrading of equipments in sub-stations. It will happen in between 0800 hrs to 1500 hrs of 8^th Oct 2011 (Saturday).

Though it is not the best performance in customer service standards, but we can said that they are improving their services. Hopefully, there will be progressively improving their customer services and one day, we can say that ours are the best not only in the regional but also all around the world.

Announcement of Posting for MBBS 2009

It has been a long time waiting for this advertisement to come out, finally announcement for vacancies of Civil Servant for 2009 batch MBBS (usually called Posting for Medical Students) has came out. Yesterday, it was posted on Myanmar Ahlin and Mirror Newspapers of Myanmar. Unfortunately, the online newspapers didn't include these pages of announcement. Thus, I did scan the page on newspaper and uploaded it over here. As of this month is nearly end of raining season in Myanmar and several country side townships were experiencing flash flood as of heavy rains, transportation to several country side towns were interrupted and not able to access to daily newspapers.

Drivers for Huawei C5720

It is a bit busy period for me that a lot of stuffs needed to be settled for my first retail business in Yangon. Now, my shop was in progress of construction. My first retail business will be launching in mid of October. Meanwhile,I will be a bit short of time to update my blog. However, I will be trying my best to be able to update my blog as much as we can.

Many of my friends who are still in abroad are willing to know the conditions of inside Myanmar regarding to business start up. It's not an easy work as usual. First of the first, (if I were to borrow words of Robert Kiyosaki), I am now at the stage of jumping out of plane without parachute and still in progress of building my own parachute in mid air. It is a bit challenging time in my life. However, I am happy with those challenges that I choose to be. I believed that I will be able to built my own parachute before I hit the ground.

Internet connection in Yangon is better than in the past, most of the time, connection is still be able to use gtalk and skype which was more or less restricted in terms of connectivity in the past. And, EDGE connection provided in GSM network also working well. As I have written in earlier this year, internet connectivity with CDMA is working well.

As I am using CDMA connection for internet connection from time to time, I need to configure my handset in several computer that I wanted to be connected. As of I am using Huawei C5720 handset, it needs to use its drivers CD to install prior connection. Sometime,it's hard to keep the mini CD for its driver, I uploaded the whole package of drivers to 4shared for all of you. When it's needed, you can browse over and download from here.

2011 - Aug - 31

Today, 31st August 2011, I would like to put in a record of that I quit my job in Singapore. It has been over three years in this company from five years period in Singapore. This is the turning point in my life what I am trying to move head of my career from employee to small business owner.

It is not the first time that I was trying to go this way. It was in late of 2003 and early of 2004, there was one time I was trying to do same thing. It was in success in term of securing some projects from several companies; however it was failed in terms of management.

After reviewing the causes of those failures, I realized that I needed not only to study more in business but also needed to change my mindsets. I realized that my mindset was trained to be employee. I tried to secure project, and employed staffs and executed the projects. The major fault I encountered is that I was always trying to involve in actual execution processes. I was trying to do things myself other than deploying the responsibilities to my people.

As of I was being my own project engineer in my projects, I was trying to sort out daily project schedules rather than trying to seek new projects. This became major failure and causes my team lack of upcoming projects, became burden on me after completion the former projects. Eventually, the team could not proceed, led to failure.

Now, this is happening again in seven years later. Though I am not trying to say that I became an expert, more or less I got better knowledge how to execute projects than seven years ago.

This is starting point of the new career path in my life; a lot of challenging factors are waiting for me to get them over.

Heading towards more prosperous and flexible future!

MyanmarBB : Another Free Classified Ads Website For Myanmar

This is a website introductory post.

I believed it will be another starting to grow, good potential website with free bulletin board that I would like to feature. It is similar what shwerooms doing in the past, however now shwerooms is a bit overwhelming already. It success in terms of popularity, and user friendly however I believed that its web administrator will need to look into it. The landing page is mess of items most of these are not that useful for usual and repeated visitors, and the listing labelled with RECOMMEND also stay there for quite long time. I understand that it is a business to put up such advertisements and recommended items for a website to survive in long term. However, if the most of the items on the first page user saw are not that useful for them, it will bring a website to endangered status if there is a website with same target market and niche is coming up. (It's not to be offending, it is just a point for shwerooms to ponder).

Now, it is Myanmarbb, basically the first thing obvious for user is quite clean in look and easy to use. It fully supports Myanmar fonts and categories are also covering various sectors. I personally believed that it will be in high potential to grow in popularity and will gain high traffic in short span of time. The only thing will challenge to web admin is spammer because user can post ads in anonymous mode.

It's been quite a long time I didn't share Arakan music. Now, I would like to share one of the songs sung by Arakanese famous singer, Than Maung. It's about a drunkard.

As you all know that habits like drinking and smoking are bad habits that are difficult to quit when you got them. However, these bad habits are seems to be good when you are having first time contact with them.

At the end of the days, these bad habits deteriorating not only health of that victim but also damage to personal image of the person, eventually lead to early death.

Before You Quit Your Job

This August, Mgluaye is busy with handing over of the responsibilities to fellow colleagues. Of course, Mgluaye decided to quit job and has given one month advance notice to present company. August is the last month of the present career in my life. Same like all of you, this decision has not come out easily. Before quitting this steady and good job in Singapore, I have to encourage myself too much, because I have to start up my own career in my life. It can be said that I am heading from E quadrant to S quadrant in my life. There is a lot of challenges waiting for me to take over. Upcoming Religious Event In Singapore

It's quite a long time no new post come up in Mgluaye's pages. In this period of time, Mgluaye is passing through some of the challenging times and new and new challenges are waiting ahead for me in near future. I have to strive to overtake those challenges. Last five years ago also, I have been encountered this kind of challenges and taken it over and come up to next level of success in my life. This time round, challenge is bigger than previous round and reward also will be much bigger than ever before.

I need more strength and knowledge to collect to be able to ride on this round of challenges to get success.

Mobile Internet In Burma

Yesterday, I have read one of the good news about our golden land. It was that all of the GSM mobile lines in Rangoon and Nay Pyi Taw are accessible for mobile internet. I have gone through a few comments regarding to this news on FB, saying that is its speed fast enough? It really doesn't matter. It is good enough to have access internet through mobile. Improvement on its service will come later. (The reason I am saying this is mobile broadband internet in first world country, like Singapore also damm slow in peak hour. Yesterday, I saw this news' title on FB shared by one of my friends about mobile internet in Myanmar in the evening and click it to read. I got frustrated of very slow mobile broadband, finally I could read that news while I reached back home only.)

A decade ago, in 2000, while we were going for field-service to Myanmar telecom offices, granted in junction with Ministry of Technology and Ministry of Communication, we got chance to access major facilities of telecommunication. Since those days, we understood that building of infra-structure of fiber link covering the whole country was in progress. So, I believed now that link was already completed because government announced 30 millions lines will be issued within 5 years period.

And again, one of the news said that Burma is planning to launch own satellite for broadening its telecommunication. Hopefully it will be in fast pace and done in short period of time.

After reading these news, I can see that there is a dawn of fast pace development of our home land in near future. We need to get ourselves prepared to be able to adapt the fast moving development of our country because the two major elements of development, electricity and telecommunication is in place and then rapid changes and development is unstoppable.

Seven Steps to a Successful Business Plan

Whenever we think of starting an own business, the biggest obstacle that is hindering us to jump into business is "Risk". Actually, there is no place without risk. The only thing differ is whether you can control it or not. If you can control all the risks you encountered, it apparently lesser risk. However, the statement "Business is risky." is the one which embedded and most of our unconscious minds believed in that and became like a true fact.

Eventually, all the risks can be controllable. The only thing we need to know is how to control it. As far as I studied, doing business is very similar like constructing a building. Nowadays, we do drawing of the building in AutoCAD or whatsoever drawing software. It can help us to visualize how does it looks like our final product is? The other thing is scheduling. We need to schedule when we are going to do what matters to be able to get such kind of end result we are looking for.

In business, sketching out the end product you are building and scheduling can be combined into one item, which is Business Plan. Siberia - Wong Ko Khaing

The song is about the Siberian Crane, one of the endangered species of the kingdom of birds, known to be left about three thousand birds around the world. The most distinct characteristic of the Siberia Crane is that they are the birds migrating the longest distance in the world. Depending on the weather and survival, they usually migrated two times in a year. They flock into big group and flown over the hills and mountain ranges over thousands of miles every year. They migrated every year to the south when the weather is not suitable for them habitat in their arctic region. However, it is quite faithful to their home land that they will be flying back to their home land when the summer comes.

The song of Arakanese Singer, Wong Ko Khaing, featured its distinct characteristic of migration over the long distance and returning back to their home when there is ok for them. It makes me felt like singer wanted to tell me that the animal, this bird is faithful to its land in such manner.

How about you and me? Will we be faithful to our land like Siberia Crane?

Every time, I go to Myanmar Embassy in Singapore to pay tax or other matters, I usually didn't have much information such as what documents will be needed to bring along for what I need to do. Basically, much of the information can be retrieved from ME Singapore website. However, I seldom browsed that pages and do not know that there got sample forms. Thus, last time I visited there, I took a set of copies of all the application forms for future usage in case I need it. I think most people who passed through golden age of radio in Myanmar, would have much more experience of jokes over radios, in Burmese is Har Da Ya Shwin Say. In our childhood days, there was no internet, even televison broadcasted from MRTV could be received and watched while the relay broadcasting station of state capital was working. Of course, sometime, as of certain reasons, such as cutting off power or something like that, interrupt the transmission of the relay broadcasting station at Akyab, it made us unable to watch TV for those nights. The only for sure thing you can use as entertainment was only radio, not yet FM radio, only AM radio. Radio got one of the golden ages in country parts of our countries.

For those who experienced such periods of time would had a chance to listen Har Da Ya Shwin Say, It was like a radio operas. Now, here are a bunch of Har-Da-Ya-Shwin-Say I would like to share. A Guide to Practical Scaffolding

Within this May, Mgluaye got a chance to attend Scaffolding Erector Course at BCA. It will take all together 9 sections of 3 hours course at the evening and one 4.5 hrs section of test. There are three sections of theory and six sections of practical courses. Theory is not that bad, however practical session is a bit tiring. The course will be completed by 9^th of June only.

All the scaffolding techniques that have been taught at training are metal scaffolding. I got a sense of remembrance of our bamboo scaffolding used all over our country. Bamboo scaffolding is essential for renovation of the religious building like pagoda and dagobas' buildings in Myanmar. And, it is so special because you can construct irregular shaped scaffolds aligning to curve or rounded structured building. Our people are so skillful to use bamboos and coir ropes. Rope made of coir also one of the essential material that used in bamboo scaffold erection.

However, there is only one thing we needed to add in our traditional scaffolding systems is personal protective equipments, usually called PPE. If PPE systems added onto our traditional scaffolding erection systems, it will become a perfect system.

As far as studied on course, I found out that the scaffold will be one of the good items to use while we are constructing the vandals on our annual water festivals. I hoped it will be more cost effective and less cost than using wood as of you can use it repeatedly, and if there are metal scaffold suppliers who can provide this service for these events. I think that will be a pieces of idea to consider to do business as metal scaffold supplier in our festive events.

On Mgluaye's Pages, a few percentage of the visitors are coming here to see the daily exchange rates between Singapore Dollars and Myanmar Kyats. For usual visitors , it will be unnecessary to tell you that every month also the currency review of exchange rates are posted first week of subsequent month. I knew that it is somehow useful for you to know that what's the trends of Myanmar Currency vs Singapore Currency, especially for those who came here and work in Singapore. And again, Singapore is being the most easiest junction points for other countries from all over the world to send money back to home. This is also one of the reasons that we needed to know daily exchange rates for our friends all over the world.

Now, there is one more services that I would like to provide for you. If you are one of the iPhone users like me, you would be able to view exchange rates on your iPhone. MMCurrency is the first of the first web application for iPhone users showing Myanmar Currency exchange rates. Actually, it is a by-product of the studying to be able to develop iPhone app for me. This is the second part of the post about Arakanese Music Concert in Singapore. Event was successfully commenced as per photos on the previous post. Three hours period was passed un-noticed, then there was 20 minutes break for food and drink. It resumed twenty minutes later. The full event was ended after 9:00 pm, the whole event lasted about 6 hours. It's the successful event of all the time, I ever experienced. Today, there was a musical event held by Arakanese Association Singapore. The event name was Missing Tunes For Rakkha Land. The event was held on Arena Country Club at upper Jurong road, near by Joo Koon MRT. It started around 3:00 pm, this afternoon. Here are some of the photos taken at the event. Today is one of the days of my headache because I started writing my business plan as per my intention. This is one of the things I am willing to do since long time ago, eventually the dream come true. Actually, this weekend is one of the long weekends in this year as of our company has set Monday as off-in-lieu for the voting day of Singapore GE which fall on today. I will be having two more long weekends, as I have two more leave days balance to clear in this month. Results of Customers' Satisfaction Survey of Myanmar Restaurants

The result of the survey of customers' satisfaction on Myanmar Restaurants for month of April 2011 has been revealed. We'd received all together 13 entries. Within these thirteen entries, Inle, Irrawaddy, Oriental House and Zeyar got 1 each, holding 7.69 % of customers' choices. Mya Nandar can take 3 votes out of thirteen, 23.08 % of customers' choices. And finally, the continuous winner for all three rounds of survey is Yanant Thit. Yanant Thit got 6 out of 13 votes, firming 46.15 % of customers' choice.

When is the right time to go back?

That's a question keep on asking me from deep inside my heart. I knew that a lot of my friends who were working in abroad also asking themselves this same questions. Some got their answer and get through their desired ways and successfully flew back over to home land and establish their dream business and enjoyed their life already. Some people, like me, still finding the answer and not yet get the solution that can satisfy own-selves, are still struggling in high pressured work environment.

Two days ago, I had an informal discussion with one of the cab drivers while I took his cab from my project site to back to the office headquarter. Like usual drivers I'd experienced before, he asked me same question, how about your country? He quoted that Myanmar is the most richest country in natural resources in south east Asia countries, and if there were proper management for those resources, Myanmar can take top role in a short period of time in regional ranking especially in ASEAN. I agreed with him, and I also added to his comment saying that present situation was now heading to that destination we had wishes for previous generations, and if keep on going ahead with this manner, we can says that golden days of Myanmar is not too far in the future. After adding comments on his quote, I added again saying that this is the right time to go back to Myanmar for Myanmar professionals who were in abroad. And I told him that I also decided to go back and start own business within two years time.

Cabbie laughed at me suddenly, and told me that he don't believe my statement. I asked him "Why?". He had answer ready for my question. He said that nearly thirty years ago, some of his friends from India also saying the same thing. His friends told him in 1981, "My longest stay in Singapore will be 10 years only, then I will go back to India.", cabbie continued his sentence with smile, "now is 2011, twenty years from the time they told me that they will be going back to their homeland. However, they were still remain in Singapore. They came and work as ordinary worker holding work pass, a few years later they applied Permanent residence, then a few more years later, some of them even converted into Singapore Citizen. Where is their quote that they will be going back homeland?"

I have no objection to his comment, it is true and is also a remarkable comment and a note to be taken into consideration for goodness of future generation. I tried to think like as I were in their shoes, at first they will have really had same destination and decision to go back to their homeland and do business like me. But, theoretically speaking, it is their own, personal decision. After getting married, and having babies, their destination deviated from the one they made in their past. The main thing is that they consider more for their younger generation than their own-selves. OK. Then, what is the main point that make them stuck in abroad? Having generation in abroad should be main thing making them stuck and deviated from their own destiny. (It may not be true for everybody, but it is just my personal opinion.)

So, how about ours? If we are walking the same road, at the end of the day, we will be at the same destiny that those people being here since long time ago. It is sure that we will be at same situation and having no choice than staying in abroad for whole rest of life. Then, what should we do? We have to walk differently from those of older generations did before. Like those others, I am also still finding the most suitable answer for my future destiny to be able to satisfy myself.

How about yours, my friend? It is not compulsory to answer it over here. However, It will be appreciated if you all can share your point of views over here. Thinking with more heads is sure better than thinking with one head. I would be pleased if I can give you a piece of thought that needed to be pondered, hoping you all get the correct and suitable answer for your lives.

2011 Thingyan Events in Singapore

Last week Sunday, Myanmar people in Singapore were celebrating Myanmar New Year festival. I hope you would be there participating the events. I also have been there in Toa Payoh monastery in the morning and afternoon I went to Sembawang Thingyan. I thought that there would be about at least five thousand people came and celebrating there.

The event was successful; the only thing that a bit discomfort to the participants was the transportation. The normal passenger bus was too congested and had to wait for long queue at Sembawang interchange. The taxi stand outside Sun Plaza also crowded. However, our people possessed extreme patience that can stand to be able for participation such event happened once in a year.

Hi Guys! Today is one of the great days again. The reason??? I found out one software what I wanted.

Most of the time I went back homeland, I usually bring back all of my photos, software, etc with USB thumb drive, external hard drive, to be able to use for computer at my Rangoon home. Every time, I use my thumb drive, external HDD, most of the time, those USB devices were infected with viruses. When I reached back to abroad, I scanned those USB devices with Antivirus. Anti virus, malware, etc can be cleared with anti viruses. However, all of my data inside was hidden by those viruses.

Today I found a tiny software that solved my problem, called USB Show. It is not a new software, but for me, it is new as of I found out this recently only.As usual, I would like to share you all too. It is a freeware, thus you can download it from its own web portal, for those who is having difficulties to access, you can download it from here too.

This is an old song since our childhood days, but not this version. This version was the one renewed by today’s Arakanese singers. As far as I know about this song is that was extracted from the album called “Myak Wan Rake” only, and regret to say that I don’t even have info of the singer of this song too. The theme of the song is about the lovely nature of Arakanese young people who seldom shows up their patriotic spirits in normal conditions, but the time they got drunk, they are bluntly shown up as the highest patriotic people and called for perseverance of race and religion.

Sim Lim

It's more and more look alike working in Singapore and Yangon.

While I was working in Yangon, my office was at downtown of Yangon and if we need to find out some kind of spare parts or accessories, we need to go and look for in Bo Swun Pat Street, and on the Anaw Ra Hta road too. There are a lot of shops selling electronic spare parts around that area.

At the corner of 28th Street and Anaw Ra Hta road, there are a lot of used electronic goods and spoilt devices good for usage of parts as spare parts replacement.

In Singapore too, there is a mall called Sim Lim. There are two different malls of same name Sim Lim. One is Sim Lim Square and the latter is Sim Lim Tower. Sim Lim Square is the mall selling electronic goods specilized on IT products, computers and accessories.

Sim Lim Tower is the shopping mall selling more on electronic spare parts, parts for replacement. Yesterday, my team need to use a few materials to use for installation, I went there and bought what they need.

Those photos are taken with my mobile, so may be in poor in quality. It's ok, I just want to put them as record only.

Wondershare Photo Recovery

In previous December 2010, my beloved grand mom has passed away. My family from Rangoon flown back to hometown in northern part of Arakan and had done up her funeral services. As of I were on abroad, I were unable to attend my grand mom's funeral, thus I asked my family to take photos of the event. My family has done as I requested. After funeral services, there was good deeds offering for my late grand mom. Several hundreds photos were shot.

Unfortunately, one day after funeral service, one of my cousins, small boy, took my camera and played with it and accidentally deleted all the photos inside SD cards. All the photos were gone. My Mom cried sadly one day long as of those photos were the last foot prints of her mother on earth. She didn't let me know as of she worried I would felt shock after hearing that sad news. But, my younger brother informed me about it while we had conversation on the phone. I also felt sad at first, however what should I do? Worrying and feeling sad cannot bring back the deleted photos. Thus, I decided to find out is there a way to recover back these deleted photos.

If there is a will, there is a way. As usual, I am looking at Google search engine. In the meanwhile, I called to my younger brother to keep that affected SD card unused, tell him not to take any more photos. I found software called Wondershare Photo Recovery and finally I could retrieve back all the deleted photos. Then, I decided to share the software for all of my blog visitors for all of your goodness. You can download the software over here. You can install it as in trial version. Actually, AutoCAD 2011 has been released too, but for us, AutoCAD 2008 is still good enough for general purpose drawing reviewing and sketching as per on site requirement. However, for those who would like to experience better performance of AutoCAD 2010, this post will help you to be able to get your AutoCAD 2010 to be activated.

Internet Access @ CDMA800 In Rangoon

Internet access in Rangoon is now booming, ~~this post has been posted via internet access through CDMA800 wireless modem.~~ [Post only can be saved. but there was some difficulties to upload images, thus finally post has been published while I reached back in Singapore.] Last week, my family wanted to set up internet access via CDMA network. The steps that we need to do is to go and apply CDMA 800 mobile line and upgrade it into internet access. The cost you need to pay is 500,000 ks for ordinary mobile access, then 30,000 ks to for internet access. Application for ordinary mobile access will take one day processing time. Subscribing internet access needed to wait for one more day of processing time. If you need it in urgent, you will need to pay around 40,000 kyats additional charges for faster processing time.

CDMA 800 SIM CARD

I am lucky, as of I can get it in two days time. Total cost for the internet accessible CDMA 800 card is 570,000 kyats.

By then, I did go and buy 3G handset that can be used for internet access. There are several brands of handsets that can be used for internet access, however Huawei is the most popular brand in market and Model 8500 and 8600 are the two popular models in market. Huawei 8500 costs around 140,000 kyats and Huawei 8600 will costs you around 240,000 kyats. But, I choose Huawei C5720 that costs 80,000 kyats. After getting SIM card and handset, your credit balances needed to topup. I bought 10,000 kyats credit at same price.

Prepaid Top-up Card

Using internet through CDMA 800 line is quite fast and download speed also comparable to internet donggle used in Singapore. Using as a stationary access point, it is OK but using on mobile, i.e., switching automatically between antenna to antena, it still a bit slow. However, for personal usage, it is affordable and useful internet device for Myanmar. The data usage charges is 4kyats/ minute, means that 240 kyats/ hour, same charges like using in cybercafe, however you can use it at your home with full of privacy.

So that, though initial subscribing charges is a bit high, I would like to recommend internet access through CDMA 800 as a good service internet access.

Results of Customers' Satisfaction Survey of Myanmar Restaurants

Results of Customers’ Satisfactions Survey of Myanmar Restaurants has revealed off. This is second time of survey, however as of the time was holiday season, so it may be a reason of lesser entries for this time survey. Don’t worry. We are going to run this survey by quarterly, means that in end of March, there will be one more time of survey. So, all of our friends who are not be able to participate in previous two surveys will be able to do so in next, next surveys.

OK. Here we go!

We have all together of 13 numbers of entries for this time survey.

The results are as follow:

Yanant Thit is the winner of both rounds, leading with 6 votes out of 13, achieved 46.15 % vote.

Congratulations to Yanant Thit!

Inle and Zeyar restaurants stands same at second place with 2 votes each over 13, ranking of 15.38 %.

Mya Nandar, Win Myanmar and Oriental House took third places together with 1 vote each out of 13, having 7.69 % each.

Comparing with previous survey, Shwe War Myay dropped out from the list, but hopefully it will come up and take a place in next survey scheduled on last week of March, 2011.

Kyauk Phyu Deep Sea Port

Today I have gone through the news regarding to Kyauk Phyu Deep Sea Port, which has to be built by one of the China companies. If I remembered correctly, this is not really very new project for Arakan. Since a few decades ago, this project has been planned and there was the proposed trunk road from Kyauk Phyu to central Burma.

Strategically, the location of the Kyauk Phyu is very good and will be a big impact on the cargo industries in the South East Asia.

Since our childhood days, we have an idea of how to use this Ramree Island. The location they choose is the best location to built as a sea port, there are a few reasons of saying that as the best location, and there is no place like this in this region which you can berth lower belly ships.

In South East Asia, Singapore is one of the major sea ports in the region and cargo logistic was one of the most prominent businesses while they were building their golden days. In the meanwhile, as of there was high service charges in those sea ports, the logistic companies are planning to move out to other areas that can give similar services at low cost.

If Kyauk Phyu deep sea port starts its operation, what will the major impacts on regional economy? Obviously, the cargo needed to go to China through Indian Ocean, Malacca Straits and China Sea will be able to cut short through high ways and it can makes too much economical profits for Burma.

Therefore, the only thing Burma need to do is to be able to have international standard logistic and cargo management. Hopefully, it will be helpful to regional development and if it is in going in order, future economies of Kyauk Phyu and State of Arakan will be brighter and more prosperous in near future.

Last two years, I got a few downloads of my calendars in previous two years. Calendar for 2010 was downloaded 65 times for whole year and calendar for 2009 was downloaded for 75 times each. But for this year, 2011, the English Myanmar Calendar of 2011 was downloaded 100 times until today. As of it was uploaded in December 19, average download per day is 3.5714 as of it has been downloaded 100 times within 28 days.

I hoped you all would like to ask me what kinds of benefits I received for those download. Singapore: Customers' Satisfaction Survey of Myanmar Restaurants (2010 Dec)

Here is one more time of customers’ satisfaction survey of Myanmar Restaurants in Peninsula plaza, and this is the second time of survey. First time, it was held in previous August 2010 and visitors of Mgluaye’s pages pick up and set the ranking as follow:

Yanant Thit got 7 out of 22 votes,
Mya Nandar got 6 out of 22 votes,
Inle got 3 out of 22 votes,
Oriental House and Win Myanmar got 2 out of 22 votes each, and
Shwe War Myay and Zeyar got 1 out of 22 votes each.

This time around, there is a minor change; Nann San of previous contest was changed into 149 BBQ.

I would like to brief the purpose of this survey which already mentioned in previous survey, however for those who are not be able to participate in previous survey, I would like to do this survey for two reasons as follow:

One:
We can pick up one of the restaurants that meet much of our customers’ requirements.

Two:
In our culture, if we feel something bad, we felt that this is our individual problem and we do not have place to let the other people knows that we do not like this thing and that thing. Actually, if a stall have low level of customer satisfaction standard makes feel bad to other people too.

By doing this survey, the restaurant got the highest rank in survey will be ideal for the rest, and the rest who do not win the highest rank also will try to improve their service standards in future. You don’t need to enter any personal data on this survey and this survey is running anonymously.

Today, 15^th December 2010 is the day of the state of Arakan, and this is the time of 25^th Anniversary of celebrating since this date was set as the Day of the State for Arakan. So, as per giving honor to the our native land, Arakan, I would like to share about Arakan state. The following article was extracted from the Book of The Golden Mrauk U written by U Shwe Zan. The article name was "The Rakhine State".

Rakhine State

Rakhine (formerly known as Arakan) is one of the seven states constituted in the Union of Myanmar, separated by the long range of Rakhine Yoma from Myanmar proper and by the river Naaf from Bangladesh. Rakhine State is a narrow strip of coastal region intersected and blue mountain ranges.

Having an area of 36,778 km it constitutes of 4 Districts, 17 townships and 1,041 villages tracts and the population is a little over 2 million.

Most of the people are Rakhine: there are also Chins who occupy the hill areas of Mrebon, Ramree, Ann and Taungoke townships. Many hill tribes interspersed with the Rakhines in the region are Daingnet, Mro, Khumi and Thet ( also known as Chakmas). Many other nationals like Myanmars, Kamans, Bengalis and Maramagrees (Bruas) also live in many townships.

Physical Background

The whole region is hilly and the coast is rocky and fringed with islands which are in fact tops of submerged mountains. The larger and more important islands are Ramree, Manaung (Cheduba) and Barongas, all in the central section. The highest elevation of the region is 6,500 ft (Sondaung). The rivers of Rakhine, with the exceptions of those in the north, are small mountain streams. The rivers of Rakhine, with exceptions of those in the north, are small mountain streams. The rivers Naaf, Mayu, Kaladan and Lemro are all in the north. The Saingdin, a tributary of the Mayu is noted for its water-fall, which has good prospects for development of hydro-electric power.

The plain of Sittwe is the only sizable plain which is formed by the deltas of Mayu, Kaladan and Lemro rivers. It is fertile and serves as the major rice producing area of Rakhine. Sittwe, the capatil of Rakhine state is situated in this plain.

The Rakhine Coast, though generally rocky, has some lovely beaches. One such beach is the Ngapali, closed to Thandway and is Myanmar’s leading seaside resort. Kan Thar Yar, another white sand beach is situated in Gwa Township along Gwa – Ngathaing Chaung road. Now a day, both beaches cab be easily assessable by car from other States and Divisions.

Economy

Since time immemorial Rakhine has been called as Dhanyawaddy, “The Land of Bounteous Rice”. Marine sector is next to agriculture. Rice mills, sawmills, edible oil mills, leather tanning mill, coconut fiber mills and sugar mill are playing some important roles in industrial sector. Household hand looms Rakhine longyis are popular in Myanmar.

Rakhine State Trunk Road

A 521 miles 5 furlongs long Rakhine State trunk road of Ngathaing Chaung - Gwa Thandwe – Taungoke – Ann - Minbya – Mraukk U- Kyauktaw – Ponnagyun – Sittwe is completely constructed and the trunk road extended up to Kyaukphyu.

Besides, road linking town with town and village with village total length of 343 miles 7 furlongs are also constructed.

To support trunk roads, many long and short crossing bridges of rivers and creeks have been constructed to day. Some important bridges are Gissarpanadi, Ra Maung suspension bridge, Mraung Bwe, Minchaung, Ma Ai, Kyaintally of Kyauktaw, Minbya, Sittwe, Ann and Gwa townships respectively which became strong connecting links of the trunk roads.

Cultural Heritage

Mrauk U offers some of the richest archaeological sites in South East Asia. Mrauk U’s rich heritage is evidenced by many magnificent monuments and Pagodas like Shitethaung, Htukkant Thein etc.

The City of Mrauk U is situated 40 miles upstream to the north-east of Sittwe. Founded in 1430, and rebuilt by the help of the Portuguese a century later, Mrauk U stood long for threre hundred and fifty five years. The city was a cosmopolitan city, fortified by a 30 – kilometer long fortification and an intricate net of moats and canals. At the centre of the city was the Royal Palace, looming high over the surrounding area like as Asian acropolis. Waterways formed canals and creeks earned the fame of a distinct resemblance to the city of Venice. It is in the Mrauk U period of Rakhine history that Rakhine civilization saw its Golden Days.

The pride of Mrauk U is in such majestic monuments as the massive Shitethaung Temple that houses a rich array of Lord Buddha’s previous lives and also the figurines of Rakhine culture if that period. The colossal Htukkant Thein, an ordination hall with several images exhibiting clothing popular in the 16th century, richly decorated central pillar of Anndaw Thein and countless others that have rarely been visited by foreigners – all having more or less superb stone works.

The excavation works of old Vesali (5 miles north of Mrauk U) which was conducted between 1980 – 1985 added a richer collection of artifact to an already – rich hoards of priceless antiques above the soil. Research on the new found antiquities of Rakhine civilization may inspire scholars to delve into many hidden facts of ancient times. Numismatic studies have unveiled that coin – making was popular in Rakhine as far back as in the 4th century. The wealth of cultural heritage is manifest in statues and inscriptions. Anandacandra inscription, wrought by Anandacandra – an 8th century Vesali King, records in over 60 Sanskrit stanzas which disclosed the consecutive succession of long line of kings that ruled old Rakhine up to his time.

The crown of the Rakhine artifact that has been taken away from the soil of its origin is the Mahamuuni Image or Rakhine Pharagri in Mandalay that still receives sacred allegiance from millions of South East Asian Buddhist devotees. The colossal image, rising to 13 ft, made the soil of its origin to be nicknamed as the “Land of Great Image.” The shrine of Mahamuni at Kyauktaw, the alleged seat of the original image, has stone statues in its place, datable to 5th century AD.

I hope you all will know Songkran of Thailand. It is a kind of water festival that people splash water each another believing that water can clean bad faiths of the last year. Its concept was originated in Buddhism and it normally fall on New Year of Buddhist calendar. It falls under somewhere in April of Georgian calendar. As of it’s originated in Buddhism, no wonder it also involved in Arakan which is one of the prominent land of Buddhism. Rather than India, which is first origin of Buddhism, Arakan is a land of the earliest land spread Buddhism and able to sustain until today. Arakanese also felt proud of it.

OK. Let’s talk about water festival. There are a lot of water festivals all over the world. The main theme of the festival is still same, but the method of playing water is slightly different in Arakan.

The youngsters from all over the townships organize and build the venue called Man Dats, come with stage for performance. Usually there is long traditional boat to use as water tank. There are ladies standing as a row inside the Man Dat, and then there are elder woman who is managing to allow the ladies and the visitors to Man Dat to be able to play water peacefully.

If you were a guy who wants to play water with a certain lady inside Man Dat, you have to make a request to the elder woman inside Man Dat. She will help you to check whether the lady you request is available or not. If the lady is available, you are allowed to play water with that lady. In the playing time, you can have a chit chat with her, asking her name, asking where she stay, and so on. Most of the dates in Arakan starts from this event.

In some cases, if the girl you want to play water with is your girlfriend, you can ask her to wait until you come to Man Dat.

It's a long period of time of no new post in this month and I would like to say sorry to all of my usual visitors. In this November, I had moved to fifth home in residency in Singapore. This is a prominent change of my stay in Singapore and in my work site too, new project has commenced. It is a busy time and lesser and lesser time I can give for my blog.

Buying Electronics Goods At Downtown Yangon

This post may be a kind of stirring shit about the shops selling electronic goods in downtown Yangon. Actually, I would like to share my feeling of disappointment that I faced on buying of one electronic goods from these shops.

You all will see all these types of washing machines in the market of downtown, Yangon. I also happened to get a chance to walk around the market and bought one semi-auto washing machine somewhere in last August. I walked around the two main streets of electronic good market in Yangon, Pansodan and Bo Aung Gyaw.

If you were a usual reader of this blog, you might know that I had been working for an electronic goods trading company in a few years back. Generally I know that what types of washing machines is good and what types is not. Again, I am one of the people who is selecting the most feasible and worthy items every time I buy all these electronic products.

I went in and ask a few shops that were selling these goods, and gone through the different types of marketing techniques. I felt not too bad for a few shops though they are a bit pushy to customer to buy their products, some were extremely bad. Customers have rights to ask you whatever questions they want because washing machine is not a kind of device we need to buy one, two units in a few months. It is an item we bought and can even last for using over decades if the item’s quality and user’s care is good.

Though I am not expert in electronic goods, I knew that these items were origin of China. I could say that these are from China origin depending upon the design and workmanship of these products. However most of the shop owners and sale persons were insisting saying that these things were not coming from China. And, I felt very surprise that the techniques they all putting up fake labels on these devices were like the genuine one. Some are labeled to be Hitachi, Samsung, and even National too.

We knew that there are a few products labeled Nibban and distributed all over the market are coming from China origin too, but it is quite OK to say that they are labeled their own brand and trying to promote in the market.

Today, majority of the equipments are producing in China mainland, for example, iPhone of Apple Inc too, designing and built by Apple only. Then mass production was done by Foxxconn of Taiwan. We knew that the word OEM is used up for all these types of manufacturer and it is OK for user to accept depending on quality of the equipments they all are selling.

Too much things I am talking around. OK. Let’s conclude. The main thing I am to trying to say to all of these shop owners and sales people that now world is changing into global village already. You cannot hide something which is not correct and you may not try to cheat your valued customers which are life blood of your business. Why don’t you want to promote without making fake labels which are not real and all these customers already know that you all are cheating. You may want to revert back my question by saying that the customers won’t buy if you are not sticking high impression brands. Again, this is a story of chicken and egg too.

In the first place, you all are selling the genuine goods, then as of some reasons of difficulties of importing the so called high end brands, you all are trying to play around with customers. You import the look-alike models of these high end branded goods, then easily changed labels and start selling these goods and ended up with high profits. It may be sweets for your business but it is like short term goodness only. You all will suffer in future and even destroying integrity of the electronics good trading market which you all are the major player of this market.

Buffalo Herding Song - Khaing Kyaw Lun

First of all, it will need to introduce what is Makkala? Makkala is a type of traditional hand made hats used in Arakan. It is made up of bamboo and foliage of palm trees . It is used in Arakan by its own people since ancient time. Nowadays, Makkala is well-known for throughout Myanmar as of it was used as a symbol of the leading political party in Myanmar, National League for Democracy. The origin of this song is famous, ancient poem about buffalo-boy (not cow boy).

In country sides of Myanmar, buffalos are used for farming as like cows. Some says that strength of buffalo is better than that of cows and productivity of the farming with buffalo too. After using them in farming, in their leisure hours, teenagers from the villages bring them to wander around the nearby mountains and dells to allow them to relax.

There is a bell made up of wood hanged around the buffalo’s neck, it makes sounds as the buffalo moving, helping the buffalo boy to find out where are they if they got lost inside the forest near to small mountains. In my childhood days, I asked my dad what those things are hanging around the cows’ and buffalo's neck, my dad gave me a funny answer as a joke, he told me that is buffalo's radio, they were listening while they wandering around the forest.

Buffalo herding song is derived from the buffalo teaming poem, and it was used as a poem in text books in high school in Myanmar once a few decades ago. Then, it was omitted in the updated text books already. Now it was renewed as a song by famous Arakanese singer, Khaing Kyaw Lun.

One of the major difficulties that most of Myanmar people coming abroad and looking for job (like myself) has to face is job interview. Though English language is the second official written language, but it is not common language spoken in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma). As we have been abroad and staying for long time, initially we hoped that as longer as we stay there, lesser and lesser we would be missing our home land. But, actually it was totally wrong. We all human being, even though we migrated from one place to another for certain unavoidable reasons of life, the place we called home town or native land, we would be missing it for whole life. For Arakanese, it is more obvious than other races I have known on the world.

Results of Customers' Satisfaction Survey of Myanmar Restaurants

I'd like to say sorry about that survey on the customers' satisfication of Myanmar Restaurant results was coming out quite late. We had received all together 22 entries of our visitors' views on this survey.

The ranking on the customers' sanctification was as follow:

Yanant Thit got 7 votes and win the first place in the listing.
Mya Nandar got 6 votes and win the second place in the listing.
Inle got 3 votes and the third place in the listing.
Oriental House and Win Myanmar got 2 votes and stood fourth place in the listing.
Shwe War Myay and Zeyar got 1 vote each and stood fifth place in the listing.

As of this is first time survey, we cannot said that the results are 100% accurate. We will be running one more time survey by coming December 2010. We hope that the upcoming survey will come out more accurate figure for the Myanmar food stalls.

Anyway, we appreciated all of our friends' opinions and contribution.

Singapore: Customers' Satisfaction Survey of Myanmar Restaurants

This time, I would like to run a survey among my friends who are living in Singapore and experienced with food stalls those selling Myanmar Foods especially in Peninsula Plaza. Normally, most of our Myanmar people used to go to Peninsula plaza for certain reasons, some people go there for transferring money to home, some people go there for having food of our own tastes.

Before two years in the past, there had not so many Myanmar food stalls in Peninsula plaza, we have a few of them, like Mya Nandar, Ye Yint, and etc., Now today we have a handful of food stalls opened since about one year ago and currently running their business and serving people.

Most of the time, we used to go to same food stalls which we think quite OK for us for some reasons. I found out that some of the food stalls are full with customers most of the time, and some don’t. Then, I got an idea of what our Myanmar people likes in their food stalls and what we don’t like. I would like to run a survey. I would like to run survey for two reasons.

One:

We can pick up one of the restaurants that meet much of our customers’ requirements.

Two:

In our culture, if we feel something bad, we felt that this is our individual problem and we do not have place to let the other people knows that we do not like this thing and that thing. Actually, if a stall have low level of customer satisfaction standard makes feel bad to other people too.

By doing this survey, the restaurant got the highest rank in survey will be ideal for the rest, and the rest who do not win the highest rank also will try to improve their service standards in future. You don’t need to enter any personal data on this survey and this survey is running anonymously.

I would like to run this survey quarterly for a year. I hope that visitors who visit Mgluaye’s pages will help and contribute with their opinion in this survey. It can help yourself and others by let food stalls knows that they are at the highest rank in customers’ satisfactions or they need to improve their service standards.
